Chase offers him to become an officer in the Royal Marines.
“French Navy hasn’t had a real fight since Trafalgar.”
“At sea, there isn’t much to do.”
“Here, the fight is just starting. I know how to fight. I will be needed.”
“But, Richard, the Army does not want to use your fighting skills.”
“Boney won’t let Moore and the Spanish take back Spain. There will be more battles. We did well against Junot’s French. Other marshals will come with many more soldiers. The French have more men in a single corps than we do in our whole army. The Dons and the Portuguese will need help to keep the French out.”
“Wellesley was called home. Horse Guards won’t keep him there long. He’ll be needed somewhere else. I have been tied to him for fifteen years. Done alright with him, even when I wasn’t to be included in the fighting.”
“I’ll go with Moore’s army as a quartermaster.
